Kia and Hyundai are sharing the same Blue Drive hybrid system in both the Hyundai Sonata hybrid and the Kia Optima hybrid.  Kia estimates that the Optima hybrid will achieve 36 mpg around town and 40 mpg while on the highway; these figures are far better than the gas Optima’s 24 mpg around town and 34 mpg on the highway.  Drivers who choose to wait for the Kia Optima hybrid to arrive are going to enjoy 206 horsepower and 195 pound feet of torque from the 2.4 liter four cylinder engine under the hood.  The engine will be coupled with a six speed automatic transmission, and the entire vehicle is going to be very environmentally friendly.

Kia changed the exterior appearance of the new Optima only slightly to improve the aerodynamics.  The aerodynamic design of the iconic Toyota Prius has been accredited with its great fuel ratings, and Kia is hoping for the same results.  Drivers will appreciate the 16 inch alloy wheels that look nicer than most on the market plus the hybrid Optima is going to have more features than the standard gas model Optima.  Drivers will enjoy all the features of the mid-trim level Optima plus dual zone climate control, remote keyless start, and a driver seat that moves eight ways via power controls.
